I have been with Berlinger for about 2.5 years now. I started as part of the team that developed the technology and infrastructure behind SmartSystem, our real-time monitoring solution. Having transitioned into the role of Product Owner for Berlinger Services, I am now deeply involved in developing and building our Service Product portfolio to ensure we stay ahead of the curve and can continue to be a reliable partner for our customers as they make the switch to real-time monitoring and digitalized supply chain operations.

One Question to Berlinger Services' Product Owner: How do you support customers transitioning from non-real-time to real-time monitoring in pharmaceutical supply chains?

The pharmaceutical industry is rapidly evolving, with significant pushes towards digitalization and real-time condition monitoring in particular to enhance supply chain resilience and transparency. Traditionally, single-use, offline loggers were (and still are) used for monitoring the shipment of pharmaceuticals. This approach only provides limited – if any – visibility during transit and requires cumbersome and often unreliable processes to get shipment data into customers’ systems (long) after shipments have arrived. The shift to real-time monitoring changes all that, offering tremendous benefits in terms of process automation, data quality and availability, reducing waste, and optimizing supply chains. However, it is not without its challenges: implementing reverse logistics to profit from re-useable real-time monitoring hardware, and integrating systems and processes to allow for a greater degree of process automation, efficiency, and reliability.
